EXHIBITIONS: During the course of their residency, artists are expected to maintain a regular studio practice and commit to having an active presence at the HAC. Though there are no specific requirements for a resident’s productivity during their time here, by the end of their term Artists in residence are strongly encouraged to present the work they have completed in their time at the HAC. This may take the form of a show in a Baltimore gallery space, a performance at the HAC Theater or some other sort of exhibition befitting the artist’s individual work.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Residents will be expected to participate and provide assistance in at least one HAC sponsored event or project each month. For example, residents could provide technical assistance for a performance in the theater, help hang a show in the gallery, work on publicity for HAC events or lend a hand in completing structural improvements for the HAC building. Residents may also, with the approval of the board, develop and complete independent community-based art projects as part of this requirement.
ELIGIBILITY AND FEES: All artists must be at least 21 at the commencement of their residency and may not be enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Both local and national artists are encouraged to apply.
The fee for this residency is $400 per month. In return, the HAC provides housing, utilities and a studio. Additionally, artists are required to provide a $150 deposit upon their acceptance into the program, which will be returned to them at the start of their residency. There is no application fee.
Because our residency is not fully supported at this time, residents are permitted to obtain employment during their time at the HAC. However, this will not excuse them from being active participants in the residency program, keeping a regular studio practice or fulfilling any of their other duties as residents.

Two artists along with the HAC’s residential Community Arts Organizer will be provided with a shared on-site apartment as well as private studio spaces. Residents will have private bedrooms with a shared kitchen and common room. Each resident will also receive his or her own studio at the HAC studios located next door. Additionally, residents will have access to the theater and gallery spaces. Residencies are for 6 months from Tuesday, September 6, 2011 to Friday, March2, 2012 and may be extended for an additional 6 months at the discretion of the resident and the Hamilton Arts Collective board. The HAC cannot accommodate partners, children or pets. At this time, the HAC cannot provide handicap accessibility to the apartment or studio spaces. Artists are asked to provide their own equipment and may be limited to the kinds if equipment they may use in the studio building.
